Don’t have time to exercise? Me either.
Life is busy. That’s why my workouts are only 15 minutes in length. I subscribe to the “Train Smarter, Not Longer” philosophy, so when I’m exercising, I’m all business. Most people know not to bother me at the gym because I’ve got my equipment lined up, my interval timer beeping, and I’m pretty sure my facial expression reads somewhere between “I’m very focused” and “don’t even think about it.”
In fact, one guy who hired me to help strengthen his core said “You’re pretty unfriendly when you’re here.” I told him I prefer to think of it as focused. I will smile and say hello, but if you want to chat, you’ll have to catch up to me during my cool down and stretch. I don’t want to be there any longer than I already am.
Saturday, I meant to allow 45 minutes for my workout. But I lingered too long over coffee and ended up with only 15 minutes. I warmed up for 4 minutes on a difficult level on the stairmill, then I did 4 really solid sets of leg presses and military presses. I went heavy, at a weight I could only do for about 8-10 reps. I ended with one “to failure” set of T-bar rows, and that was it. I finished with just enough time to clean up and be ready to see clients.
And guess what? I’m sore. I didn’t have to be at the gym for an hour to get in a worthwhile workout. I made the most of those few sets of only a few exercises. And it worked.
And that’s why my 15-minute HiiT Quickies can work. They hit all major muscle groups, including your abs, and they provide an intense cardio workout if you push yourself.
So let’s quit chatting and get busy. In honor of Veterans Day, this workout is called Armed & Ready!
“Freedom is never free.” -Author Unknown
“How important it is for us to recognize and
celebrate our heroes and she-roes!” -Maya Angelou
“This nation will remain the land of the free only
so long as it is the home of the brave.” -Elmer Davis
“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget
hat the highest appreciation is not to utter words,
but to live by them.” -John Fitzgerald Kennedy
To our veterans, Thank You for your courage, your service and your sacrifice!
For this week’s workout you’ll need a set of light dumbbells, a set of heavy dumbbells, and one heavy Sandbell.
